A girl takes over her twin sister's identity in this emotionally charged page-turner about the complicated bond between sisters.

Ella and Maddy Lawton are identical twins. Ella has spent her high school years living in popular Maddy's shadows, but she has never been envious of Maddy. In fact, she's chosen the quiet, safe confines of her sketchbook over the constant battle for attention that has defined Maddy's world.

When—after a heated argument—Maddy and Ella get into a tragic accident that leaves her sister dead, Ella wakes up in the hospital surrounded by loved ones who believe she is Maddy. Feeling responsible for Maddy's death and everyone's grief, Ella makes a split-second decision to pretend to be Maddy. Soon, Ella realizes that Maddy's life was full of secrets. Caught in a web of lies, Ella is faced with two options—confess her deception or live her sister's life.

This is a book that really got me thinking about many things but especially regarding how any decision we make both good or bad can have so many consequences. It certainly has been a while  since a book made me loose so much sleep because I kept replaying it in my head.

Things I liked:

-I've seen a lot of mixed feelings about Ella's decision. At first it did seem stupid and not the greatest decision ever but I put myself in her shoes and I honestly can't say how I would react in her place so I did end up understanding her better.

-At first I was a bit let down by Maddie's secret but like I mentioned it, I slept on it and realized that it did deserve the build up it got because of the way it altered someone's life so negatively.

-Josh calling Ella out was something I enjoyed a lot, he agreed that she had some issues with her parents but made her see that she also contributed to the situation. I've seen so many main character have their flaws excused in some way  by the author it was a nice change seeing something like this.

Things I didn't like:

-Maddy: the few pages I got to see her in made me dislike her instantly because she came off like an incredibly entitled girl, expecting her sister to be at her beck and call and thinking Ella should be grateful to Maddy for defending her.
