All’s fair in love and war.

Two thirds of the world's population has been wiped out, devastated by the worst war earth has ever seen. Still standing amongst the ruins is a mind reader who finds herself on the wrong side of the war. Everyone does what they must to survive. When the rebels bent on bringing down the New World leader start to rise up, it is her job to make sure they stay down where they belong. That is, until one rebel sneaks past her defences and into her heart. Love will blossom from the ashes, but will it be enough to save them, or will it mean the end of them both?

*This book is for mature audiences due to sexual situations, violence and strong language. NA

Actual Rating: 3.5

I had a really hard time rating this book there were things that I loved about it, others not so much.

We are first introduced to the  main character Charlotte when she is  sixteen years old and witnessing the murder of her mother by the New World Army, a group that now controls society, when Roman the second in command come in and discovers Charlotte's ability to read minds, he decides to take her to Ludwing, the leader of the New World. Once in New World headquarters it's decided that Charlotte is to be used as a weapon, our heroine so for the next five years our Charlotte is now "Weapon X", the most important tool against the rebels.

The Good

-Normally books with multiple points of view annoy me but in this case it worked since we got to see insiders of the Rebels and New World agents. It felt very interesting seeing how all the characters were connected.

-I think I liked the villains Ludwing and Roman more than the good guys. I found both this characters very intriguing, it would be very nice to know more about how they came to power in the second book. Roman especially captured my attention because he genuinely cared for Charlotte and although he know she can take care of herself he still looks out for her and treats her like a human being.

-The sisters Charlotte and Bridgette were both strong in their own ways and did what it took to survive.

The Bad

-Charlotte and Pete's insta love. I took one star of the rating for this, sad because I really liked their relationship, I would have liked it more id it had developed slower.

-There was not enough world building. What happened to the world as we know it? How did Roman end up in charge? I hope the next book answers these questions.

Overall this was a very good book and I would definitely recommended to and older audience that enjoys YA books.

Thank you to Janelle Stalder for letting me enjoy your book.
